I bought this computer basically for browsing the Internet and doing other minor tasks, listening to music, creating documents, watching TV and Movies etc. I haven’t run any labor intensive programs yet (I’ve only had it for a couple days). I was going to play around with it for a while before deciding to upgrade to the 2GB RAM. So far so good. I haven’t had any of the HD vibrations or excessive noise the other reviewer had. The battery life is phenomenal. I can’t believe I can use a laptop this long and not have to be plugged in.

My only gripe is the Windows 7 Starter that comes installed. I have heard great things about “7″ and couldn’t wait to try it. For someone who likes to “play” with settings, configurations and stuff, the starter edition is not the way to go. You can’t even change your desktop from the boring windows logo. I did not think about reviewing the Windows 7 Starter edition before buying. I may have to spend additional money upgrading to the Home Edition. If you are going to buy this laptop make sure Windows 7 Starter is for you.

All in all very happy with the netbook and will serve my purposes wonderfully, just wish I would have looked at Windows 7.

Asus nearly has the netbook PC perfected. The size and ergonomics of this keyboard are bar none the best among netbooks today. The wide touchpad has the right level of sensitivity as well. And Windows 7, even with the entry level Starter edition, offers much faster processing & bootup times than Windows XP does on the Intel Atom N270 processor.

However, the Asus Eee 1005HA has its achilles heel in mechanical design. The 250GB HDD has undamped vibrations that pass throughout the chassis and straight into your wrists. The fan also runs excessively. The combination creates high levels of noise and vibration compared to similar netbooks such as the Acer Aspire One D250. Also, even without Anti-Virus software running, Windows 7 and the preloaded software consume 40% of the available 1GB of memory.

Asus will undoubtedly be working out the kinks in this netbook, but many users will find the vibration and noise levels to be unacceptable, especially when other manufacturers offer netbooks without these concerns. Once Asus releases a thermally cool, vibrationless version with 2GB DDR2 memory, this netbook will be unstoppable.

Update: after exchanging for a second 1005HA, it has the exact same vibration issues. This endemic rather than a one-off dud.

I bought this computer a few weeks ago, upgraded it to Windows 7 Home, and I take it with me everywhere. It’s great for taking notes in class (I’m a college student) and so small I can fit it in my purse. But I don’t feel that the size makes it difficult to use at all. As a matter of fact, out of all the computers I’ve owned or used in my life, I find this one the easiest to type on with the best accuracy. It’s a great computer for internet and word processing. I would recommend it to anyone!

I’ve had this computer for a week now and it is amazing. I have upgraded it to 2GB of RAM using OCZ 2GB PC2-5400 667MHz DDR2 Value SoDIMM Module (OCZ2MV6672G) and it is amazing. I have also upgraded the computer to Windows 7 Ultimate, and I am getting 9+ hours of battery life out of it. Anyone only getting 5 hours or so is clearly not using a good configuration. I used this guide to get the most out of this computer ([...]) and although it looks more like Windows XP than Windows 7, it is fine for me.

If you leave the monitor bright and all that flashy Aero interface, of course you’re battery will be terrible. I’m a full time student, and I take this computer to school with me everyday and I don’t even bring the power cable any more because I never need it. The 2 main choices for the EEEPC are this one, and the PU17. I feel this one is better because although the better is rated at 2 hours less, 8.5+ is enough, this one has 100GB more on the HDD, and it is a matte display, not glossy. Which helps alot when you have the brightness turned down since matte doesn’t look like a giant mirror.

My husband ordered this for me a few weeks ago, and Ive had this for about a week and a half. This is great, I take it with me everywhere. I use this in school for any word processing I may have to do. I am in a paralegal program, so this is very useful, and a must have for me. It has a lot of storage space, and its pretty fast. I haven’t had any problems with this at all, and I hope it stays that way. The battery life is accurate, 8.5 hours – I don’t have to worry about bringing my adapter to school with me. This netbook looks good all around. Its very quiet also, you can barely tell its on. I love that the 1005HA-MU17 models have a matte screen, so taking this outdoors will be no issue. And best of all, its pink! I LOVE it! I almost forgot to mention, it fits perfectly in my purse, perfect for taking it everywhere.
